PHOTO REPAIR
This picture was scanned from a circa 1860 glass print in a small leather case. The original looked rusted and seriously water damaged. Much to our surprise and delite, the scanned image had a rich green color and the reflection in the scanning process worked in our favor to bring back some of the contrast in the image. The goal was then to simply clearify what had appeared. To do this we used the rubber stamp tool to clean up slightly, adjusted levels and applied grain. The result is a picture that still looks its age, but with dignity. Attempting to create a "new" looking image would have been time consuming without yielding a good image since the faces were simply too washed out to be improved. Much of the trick to success with photo repair is recognizing the limitations of the image and creating a look that is pleasing.
